well, it was quite innovative at the time it was made. Bands didn't usually use seperatly recorded sounds as rythms, and neither did they use 7/4 beat, or switch so rapidly into 4/4 for the guitar solo. The guitar solo is pretty awesome as well. And it's a good mix of rapid and calm music. The text is meaningful as well, something the 68-ers liked, and progressive music was "in" at the time. Hope that answered your question ;)

Richard did a lot to bridge the Syd gap and keep the band going while Roger and David worked things out. I always thought a Richard led Floyd could have been very good. I think this legitimized by the fact he is noticeably absent (missed) from Roger's solo work and indispensible to Dave's. As well as his contributions to Momentary Lapse and especially Division Bell.
