As far as I know, the London Symphony tunes A in 441Hz, as most symphony orchestra's do. Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra f.e., tunes 442Hz. So you can use a tuning device or a tone generator for tuning your instrument :)

i have the same problem lol I've only used that technique in only about one or two pieces of music its hard to do but once you get the groove u can let your body take over. then the rlly hard part is adding accents into your playing it rlly requires a good control of your index finger weight on your bow

Hey im a metal and hardcore fan as well. But I also love classical. It seems to me that ur teacher is just an idiot. My friend whos a crazy violinist wrote an article for violinist,com called "narrow mindness in music" and its about how he went from thinking that classical players should never listen to anything else. Once he gave metal a shot he fell in love with it. The problem isnt that classical sux, its that ur teacher is an idiot when it comes to these things

Yes, you are correct, thanks for the reality check. Trolls only have the power you give them. It was not this piece so much as my emotionally abusive teacher, and my deep love for rock music, which he tried to keep me from playing. I was told, "there are two kinds of musicians, players and composers. You are a player, not a composer." This piece became symbolic of the strict control that classical traditionalists often like to exert over the younger generations -- I ran the other way FAST.

Yes very true. But if everyone played an unaccompanied piece that way, all the recordings would be the same. Keeping to the music works well when you are playing in a Baroque, Renaissance, or sometimes classical chamber group where there are to many people to "bend" the music.

I played this godforsaken concerto for three miserable years. Although I won multiple competitions with it, it kind of ruined classical music for me and drove me to rock n' roll forever. She plays beautifully, and I hope she enjoys what she is doing, and doesn't do it for the sake of her teacher, like I did.

I know what you mean but it's not as hard as it seems. when I was first working on the piece it was less clear and sometimes out of tune because it felt like a had to stretch a lot, but I'm actually coming back to it right now for competition stuff and it is much easier now. idk, maybe once you get a break from it and come back it's in your hand. . . and lots of slow practice. listen to gil shaham play it, it's incredible how clean and precise he is.

i guess ''better'' was the wrong word I'm fairly new to classical music and I was only wondering who was the best in the world not for any other reason but my own curiosity , iv been doing a lot of research on violinist and all three of there names kept coming up but so far i really enjoy Janine Jansen mostly because i think she has more fun doing it and i love how she moves her hole body with the music sometimes i think she might hurt herself but thats just passion for the music i guess

WOW I love violins. I love back beats (not to be confused with rap in general). This ish is awesome. The violinist is absolutely incredible. They picked out the right mixes for the DJ to put to it. I would definitely pay for a CD, concert, or anything from these two. Way to go guys!

as far as suwanai is concerned, her parents didn't push her too much seemingly. she wanted to learn violin by herself when she was 2 years old according to an interview on youtube (watch?v=EXPRjr0eAfs), which is in japanese with no sub though.

pushing to the limit while young.... doesn't mean you become mechanical. The fact is most Asians artists are musical.... and playing such concertos in such a young age is beyond ordinary. Enjoyment is subjective. Why dont you just enjoy whatever level you have in playing musical instruments!

There's no point to arguing with you, but I meant that in the 20 or so yrs since this was filmed, she has probably gotten better--and mastered that technique. So you telling her what she needs to work on doesn't apply because this was so long ago and because she won't see what you wrote. I'm sure you're COMPLETELY qualified to judge this competition.

You guys who complain that Akiko is "too focused" or "too mechanical" don't know what you are talking about. So is Heifetz not too focused? Heifetz is EVERY bit focused on his playing. I must agree..despite most of the piece being flawless in terms of technical skill, she is too focused on playing the right note rather than enjoying the piece and putting feeling into it. Go watch Perlman's or Sarah Chang's (the one where she was a teenager) and then compare it to this. Their rendition is far better because they enjoy the music.

Your are great violinist. I been play for about 3 years and struggling, practice two or three hours day and i'm in my 33years. I didn't have chance to take lesson as young due to childhood circumstances. I get frustrated due to not getting results. How do you get so good what do I need to improve myself. the only thing I do not like about suwanai is that she is so focused. It doesn't really seem like she enjoys playing, no feeling in her style it sounds superficial, good, but lacking a unique quality. I will say, regardless of my personal opinions she is a phenomenal violinst.
