Considering whose song this is, I'd think about calling "thunder from heaven" and asking the man himself... Billy, we know that you pass through here from time to time, and read some of these comments. What do you say about dr88karate's comment? Is there a version of "Longest Time" like that? If you can find this 9 part version, post it here on YouTube- that would be a "must hear"! I can see how it would be done, repeating three parts of the original six, for a total of nine. The falsetto break and bass line would be the defining part. Billy's range, which has improved with age, is a strong 2nd tenor/high baritone. If he could pull off the falsetto break and the bass that would be eerily cool...

Maybe on this version of the song there are others singing with him but rumor has it there is one version with him singing nine parts... Really. In this version, he records some parts twice using a "Call and Response" kind of technique. Thats were he gets the nine parts from. so there really is only six parts actually heard. A music teacher at my school, who has met Billy Joel, told me about this version. He said Billy desquised his voice for some of the parts.

Nope. Billy doesn't have that range for bass, and his falsetto is different. Listen to "River of Dreams". If you ever heard Rockapella's cover of this, then A/B'ed it to Billy's, you'd have no questions left to ask. Billy sings lead. The guys in the video singing with him are the famous acapella doowop vocal group Rockapella. Look them up. Same as recorded. And it's SIX part harmony, not nine. And yes. It's feel good music for real.
