I agree that it doesn't make sense that decades would be written as possessives, but it's actually correct according to some authoritative sources. For example, take a look at the NY Times' style guide. That doesn't make any more sense, but you can't just assume ignorance when you see it written that way. On another note, this is an outstanding song, and it's sad to see the band agree that they would rather retreat into obscurity, while I'd rather see them write more songs as awesome as this.

I still consider "In the Aeroplane Over the Sea" as the best album ever made, but if someone were to say that "Ok Computer" and "Loveless" were better, I would have no problem with that since those are the only other albums I would consider epic and perfect. That's the difficult part, isn't it. History is often a matter of perspective and so is a 'defeat'. Most countries tend to fight for what they believe is right, in their perspective. They'd think they'd rather die trying than accepting defeat. If you look back in history, including Iraq, it's been like that. I think what you think is somehow incorrect. It's true that the commanders of Japanese army was inferior to the well-trained soldiers of it, but they were likely to die with all of their soldiers in "Banzai-attack" even if there was slight hope to survive their troops. I don't think they need "Samuraism" in battle fields, insead, they should have continued to fight as long as possible or surrendered gracefuly to stop bleeding any more when there's no way to win.
