These panels are not DIY like some think. It's a very difficult process because the ones in these videos use plating which has a mix of several metals depending on the manufacture however the poors man Panel is done with tempered copper, but very weak. None the less it's free energy. I'd suggest considering a certifiied installer so you wont have problems with the HOA (solar companies do the fighting for you.) and you can get close to 60% of the cost rebated through federal and state programs.

Solder is correctly pronounced s?d'?r, however our narrorator is correct in assuming that regionally the spelling has now converted people to mispronouncing the word and that often makes the misprounciation show up in the dictionary after a few years. Great Idea but why does everybody use a dish why not use a globe shape solar collector. Dishes always need to move but a ball shaped solar collecting, can get all angles on its panels. A application like a light hub, for your limitations of transfering the light across the entire building, just use a hub of collecting the energy and send it to a electric battery and then send it to the second floor.

Ironically, there is still no system that's cheaper than oil or coal. No family with an average household salary can build a solar system, including this system, and save money. Everyone who builds these systems always talk about critical mass to make these systems afordable, but we're now at 30 years and there's still no technology that can do it. It's disappointing.

build a rechargeable 9v battery connected to a solar panel that produces 9v with single pass diodes and you can have the panel run all day (and i guess night) and be able to move around even when there is not enough light at sunrise for the solar panel alone to move around, and you'll never have to replace the battery :D

Interesting innovation. I wonder, they mentioned that the 9V battery runs for ~ a week. Now, when it eventually runs out of energy does it recharge itself using solar panels? That is, if the 9V battery is rechargeable in the first place. Anyways, fiber optic lighting is an old innovation. The only difference here is that the person decided to concentrate pure sunlight through a lens which is attached to fiber optics. Still a great power saver!

This is true but the computer your pontificating on and many of the electronic gadgets already in existence use the same toxic processes. The hazardous waste along with millions of tons of old electronics are sent to third world sweat shops and "waste disposal" sites. This would not work for every man and women on this planet, mostly everyone are crammed into cubicles (aka skyrises & apartments). So where are they going to put all the solar panels and hydrogen tanks for themselves. lol. But you can start small. Even a 60W solar PV panel with a small battery bank (1 or 2 batteries) and an charge controller and inverter. You could run the lights your in house and other small stuff. I have my own small setup in my house like this. It works good.

That's a lot of "ifs," a all of them are fundamental. Where to store the energy? Batteries can't store enough, especially not for millions of people. Excess? We'd be hard-pressed to simply provide for anyone. Finally, there just aren't enough sunny days. One great thing you can do with this stuff is heat your water. Simply build a parabolic mirror over a long distance (perhaps over your gutters?) and put the water pipe at the focal point. That'd cut your heating bill a LOT.
