Life's never fair but hard work is the foundation of taiji gungfu. Asia is in the heart, not the other way around. If your intent is always pure, life will lead you to a teacher. Just remember your teachers are seldom who or what you expect them to be. It is the nature of Tao. When your Taiji is strong, you will no longer be "pissed off" and you'll see less and less "foreigners" ;-)

What pisses me off the most is that thnx to all these foreigners ruining the chance for people who truly want to learn this art cant because the ones who did have the chance made it look bad and now I can only be tortured and never find someone from a direct lineage to teach me they ways of tai chi im mexican native but my heart nelongs to asia. The biggest problem with martial arts practitioners is that some have no patience and are too spoil!! Those taiji workshops were never to teach you the entire art: IT WOULD BE IMPOSSIBLE to teach decades of experience in 3 days! But as long as one is determined, by practicing the forms, push hands, fighting applications; then maybe one day one will automatically grasp the true skills of tai chi.

Yoga, I think ur being a little harsh. Its no longer an imperialistic nor early republican age in China. China is day by day becoming more of a capitalistic country. So then what is wrong with making a little money by sharing and teaching tai chi kungfu. Even in early republican era, martial arts master makes money from teaching as well. I'm not priviliged enough to be close by to a taichi master to learn, so I really depend on instructional tapes in order to learn as much as I can.

Chen Manching and Fu Zhongwen had the same sifu, Yang Chengfu. But if you compare how they do the form you will find a lot of differences. Even Chengfu's son,Zhenduo, does it differently than his father. Tai chi is an art, and all sifus interpret it differently. As long as the essentials are understood and followed the form can be played with subtle variences. The same way music will be interpreted differently by various musiciens. Beginners and intermediate though should try to copy their sifu.

That I cannot say. I only know that Abraham Liu did teach breathing and can only assume that he learned it from CMC. But this is the problem with the transmission of this kind of knowledge from person to person. It is never clear what was explicitly taught by the master to the student versus what 50+ years of doing the form by the next generation that the next generation of masters discover for themselves and pass onto their students.

I studied the Yang (Chen ManChing) with Mr. Liu in 1980-82 at the Taoist Sanctuary in San Diego, Ca. I found him to be a very patient and from what I have heard in the Tai Chi community, one of the most knowledgable in the Taoist arts...and I agree, you do feel the work out after awhle.

I think he was just referring to the view of taiji in the eyes of the public, yes there are amazing teachers still out there, but they are few and far between, you end up with a lot of airy fairy practitioners who think they know how to fight after doing the form and some push hands and they end up getting hurt, or further discounting taiji to the martial community

You're right, nobody is truly "unbeatable," in the classic sense, but wouldn't you agree that a man who doesn't fight is "unbeatable" simply because you can't beat someone unless you fight them? I think Tai Chi is better than MMA for true defense because Tai Chi makes you slippery like a snake. MMA uses strength and skill, something that won't help if you grab a serpent by the tail. Tai Chi teaches you to be like the snake and to be like water, elusive, slippery, changeable.

I think you don't understand it.. How do you want to fight with 76 years old? if you want to fight then start Karate, Jiu Jitsu, Judo or anything else.. But if you want to feel better with you and practising an art when you're very old then start with tai chi or chi kung.

I can dig that. The principles of Chan su Jin are similar enough. There are many styles of Gong Fu that have the same names but are just different enough to be considered unique. Chen is Taiji, Yang style is just as both Wu styles... we all are part of the same family with the Wudan style. In my humble opinion :) Thank you for the nice reply.

I Believe in the "man dreamed Taiji into existance" (Chang San Feng), and Yang Lu Chang art". I also believe the general Chen Wan Ting create the Chen Style. Beautiful form, the kid do a wonderful job, but there is a problem in the information of the video, it seem to be not based in the 13postures of Chang Sang Feng, appears to based his art in punching maybe is a type of kung fu, like the pao chui mixed with the tai chi of wudang. I totally agree with you. Besides the physical structure, when Master Feng unbalanced me he did it with moves I recognized from the Hunyuan forms and silk reeling excercises. One way a master teahces you correct execution is by letting you feel how his kua, waist, legs, torso and upper limbs move so that you move in the correct way as opposed to what a beginner may think he/she is seeing in the movements.

All of Master Feng´s moves come from the legs even though he doesn´t seem to be moving his lower body. When I met Master Feng in Beijing this last summer and he gave me the priviledge of feeling his structure, I could feel his power being very grounded. Yet with "little apparent" effort he easily unbalanced me. More movement inside then outside the body which comes with years of practice.

I like to see these push-hand "masters" fight a San Shou expert outside the controlled environment of push-hand. In all push hands demonstrations the opponent never does a natural fighting grab. I would NEVER grab somebody by thier biceps during a fight, or two hands on one arm, or just one hand on the wrist. I like martial arts but push hands seems like a con for some reason.

OK here is the breakdown of my arguement: Kwan had 7 triples over Chen's 6. Kwan executed the same number of jumps (doubles and triples combined). While Chen completed a double toe in combination with a flip, the judges weighed Kwan's seventh triple over the combo. Chen's triple sal/ three rotations into a double axel was not counted as a combination or a sequence considering that she did not take off on the same edge as the first jump or even a half move. That decreased the difficulty.

I dont know why I waste my time since it is obvious you are blind to what I am saying. It is not just comparing one triple to one double axel or one triple toe to one extra triple-double combo. Kwan had ONLY the extra triple toe. Kwan had the extra double axel, the extra harder triple-double, and the triple and double axel sequence. So it is a triple toe vs all three of those things COMBINED, and all 3 of those things combined are worth as much, in fact more then just a triple toe.

Perhaps the judges gave higher marks to Kwan's seventh triple over Chen's triple flip/double toe combo because in their eyes, a seventh triple adds higher difficulty over a triple/double combo (even if the triple was a flip).As for Chen's triple sal and double axel, although they were close together, I'm not sure you would count that as a "sequence" or combo because she took a few moves leading into the axel.Remember Lipinksi's double axel, half move, triple sal? That was more difficult.

Two triple toes are actually more difficult than two double axels. Kwan was actually supposed to do a double axel at the end of her program but decided to do a triple toe instead, knowing that another triple scored better technically than a double axel. I don't disagree as far as the quality of Chen's jumps, but with two judges giving Chen 6.0's and another two giving Kwan 6.0's, what gave Kwan the edge were her technical scores.

Chen had a triple flip-double toe combo Michelle only a triple toe-double toe as her second combo. Chen had a triple salchow-double axel sequence too. Chen also had an extra double axel. All of that combined equals or surpasses an extra triple toe. Chen has as much jump content or more, and her program was better in everyway except the combo spin and spirals. All her jumps better quality, better layback, better flying spin, better footwork, more grace, better program, more flow, more maturity.

Kwan had 7 triples over Chen's 6. They both skated masterful programs, but what sealed it was that Kwan had a more technically difficult program. We can argue over what's better -- the number of jumps vs. quality, but in a competition as close as this, there will never be a unanimous answer.

She really should have won this. Kwan was outstanding too but this is just beyond Kwan's program. All her jumps have better quality than Kwan. Her spins were not great but Kwan's spins weren't top notch either. I don't even feel it's a program, it's just a piect of art and it ends too fast.

Chen Manching and Fu Zhongwen had the same sifu, Yang Chengfu. But if you compare how they do the form you will find a lot of differences. Even Chengfu's son,Zhenduo, does it differently than his father. Tai chi is an art, and all sifus interpret it differently. As long as the essentials are understood and followed the form can be played with subtle variences. The same way music will be interpreted differently by various musiciens. Beginners and intermediate though should try to copy their sifu.

I think its best described as one becoming a Soft body with a Sturdy Structure. something limp is lifeless- thus if u r limp, u already lost. but in taiji it is more a 'cotton wrapped around steel' type of feel.

There is always some self-hate involved in cases like these. Though Jimmy may say he loves white men because it's his personal preference, it's like saying he's gay because it's his preference. In other words, as a gay Asian, only being attracted to white men and no Asian men is more than an issue of preference. It's also about social conditioning.
