I use a line chart with simple moving averages combined with tape-reading. But I like the concept of tick charts. I didn't know they existed! Thank-you!

Nice comments for the tic charts. I use 200 and 300 tic charts for trade entry and 1000/4000 tic for trend trading Crude Oil on NYMEX. When the market is moving, I hate to wait 2 minutes for a candle to form. Could miss some nice moves on time charts.

Shtefan - you're absolutely right. The datafeed is absolutely critical and more demanding for tick charts. Some handle it better than others. Best datafeeds I know of for this are Zen Fire, Trading Technologies and Photon-Trader (all execution platforms).

I personally prefer the tick charts because volume charts smooth things too much for my liking. By making all the bars perfectly even in measuring volume, you don't see as many extreme candlestick patterns that you get in minute charts or tick charts. For example hammer, hanging man, shooting star, etc. Those candlestick patterns are helpful and show up more when you don't force the bars to be too smoothed.

This is looking in the wrong direction. Using different indicators or different settings on indicators will not give you an advantage over everyone else. The thing that truly gives a pro an advantage over the retail (amateur) trader is their discipline, trading psychology and their money management.

Mclim888, of all of them I'd say the 50 simple is the most significant, especially for daily charts. The 200 is also very significant. These are the ones most commonly used by traders and also trading computer programs as a line in the sand between the bulls and the bears. These are not as critical for day trading, but for simplicity I use the same Moving Averages on all my charts.

Nice video - I like what you said about getting used to seeing the same pattern or structure in these m.a. charts, because I think that is the true value of using them. These are not things that can help us predict, but they are catalyst for decision-making. For me, charts provide the same aid in forecasting prices as my lucky red hat or my ritual of clearing my desk before trading, which is none -- but they do help clear the mind and aid in focusing on the task at hand.

Exactly. Think of it like this: Most people use grid lines on their charts that are evenly spaced. I take those off and put fib lines on very faintly in the background. They service as grid lines but are more meaningful. This video format is small so had to make them dark and the small size makes it look cluttered.

Ah. Thank you. That makes more sense. Your added comment on "cycles" made a light bulb go off in my mind. Now I can picture what you may use the fib time lines for. I am glad that it isn't used all the time, but in special cases, I can see how they might confirm cycle highs and lows of oscillators. Thanks for the good comment. My rule is just enough on the chart to give high probability scenarios and not one iota more. I don't use this all the time, but it's good for the big picture on index charts as it helps to confirm the cycle indicator.

Sorry to not be so enthused re: verticle fib lines. Itis too many things to put on your charts. I feel that I want to have as few as needed. I want my charts simple. I am looking at purchasing ur courses. I hope to be able to distill it down to just a couple of setups that can be traded over and over again. Now, I dont' know much about the ex-con trade or the freedom trade, but I am definitely going to check 'em out to see if they fit me.

Ali, the market will not give you the best of both worlds. That's the reality. If you ignore that it will lead to failure in the markets. You must be more patient ... and you can't trade your "need." Rather you must make the market come to you. Stay in control, be patient, and never trade from a position of need or desperation. It doesn't work!

True - Whatever your approach, higher probability trades occur infrequently. So if you have the psychological need to trade often, then you'd have to take lower probability trades. In my method we "score" trades 1-5 based on the number of energies that align. That allows you to know the probability of the trade, and then each trader can decide, based on their risk tolerance vs. their need for trading frequency, whether they want to trade setups that score 3, 4 or 5.
