A Stalinist is someone who suscribes to the ideology and actions of Josef Stalin, which by the way was atrocious. Communism, contrary to what Sternir94 said, is not "what Lenin wanted", but what Karl Marx wanted. Lenin and Bolsheviks were almost like terrorists during the revolution. Martov and his Mensheviks were more attuned to orthodox communism than Lenin.

Stalinism is to communism as the Crusades are to Christianity. Stalinism involves absolute dictatorship over all or nearly all aspects of the economy. Communism is when there is no private ownership and all workers can use the means of production (which is to say factories, land, etc) and can do whatever they want with them similar to the way the native Americans did not own land, but gave and took from them as they pleased.
