Despite the fact of whether or not this is the old complex way of learning how to write, even the slightest word or concept can be if used to enhance one's ability in some way, has given what was needed for that particular person.

I just started writing a couple of weeks ago. I had to learn the alphabet at first, but since then it's been plain sailing. The letters come whizzing out and form words and before you know it you'll have finished your very first paragraph. Mind you, I still have some of the alphabet left to learn. That's why there's no words in this comment with the letter z in it. But as soon as I hit Z, watch out. I'll be knocking a novel a day out.

Park your butt on a chair in front of your PC and WRITE! When not writing READ... everything you can get your hands on. This person makes it seem so easy! It's not. Everything must be in the proper proportions; in the right places. It takes skill, patience and application. No way is it this easy. I can gather 'How-to-write' books to distill all this material. No need to be able to write to prepare script for this kind of video. Just need to be able to 'crib'.

What's so hard about writing? Some make it sound harder than it is. Also, publishing and writing are two different things. Publishing and selling are also two differnt things. It took me 3 weeks to sell my first short stories, and that was after spending about 60 hours in those 3 weeks of writing, and completing about ten short stories. You have to do the work, but the preliminaries are much harder than the writing...and marketing is tedious.

I can write a porn novel. It's actually quite simple. I just replace the "obscene" words with vegetables. Example: "Eat my cucumber", I ordered. She replied: "What?" - "I said: eat my cucumber, you grocery vendor's intern!" - She did it. She kneeled down in front of me, her hands gripped my cucumber, and her mouth opened wide: "It's so...BIG!" - "Yes, it's big", I said, "but you will shove it in your mouth and you will swallow all of the green liquid." -

When I first read the comment my first reaction after responding was "I'm going to show this person wrong." I feed off of dissapointment. It's more like fuel for success to me. And I WILL try, I WILL write a story, maybe not a novel but I will write! I never read an entire novel before but I am good with creative writting. (Your english is fine.)
By: Gegenhall. on 14 Aug 08, 06:06:09
If you let yourself be discouraged by a comment on youtube, you're probably never going to make it, so it safes those people the dissapointment. And of course, DO try if you really want to write, because there's no greater satisfaction than writing a beautiful sentence or creating an interesting character. (My English is quite bad, but I'm a Flemish writer so you'll have to forgive me.) Cheers,
By: s67impala. on 14 Aug 08, 05:39:51
Way to discourage people. I agree you do need talent and all that. However, you don't know if you have the talent until you try. This lady does make it seem like a walk in the part though.

There are useful ideas and tips here, but the notion that writing a novel can be a "paint by numbers" experience doesn't strike me as true.
By: Fetchdafish. on 08 Aug 08, 04:10:20
There may be a lot more amateurish writers out there these days, but hey, all the better for good writers to stand out.

it's time for the independent authors to rise from the bottom of the pile and take our place at the top where we belong!!!!!!! visit my channel....we need to change the game...sick of these agents and publishing houses? i know i am.
By: tusense. on 21 Jul 08, 13:10:14
True. Another problem, I think, is that from a business standpoint, getting people to read has become a formula. Fantasy novels have to be a dashing hero fighting a dragon. Romance has to be... whatever romance novels are about. It's rare to find something that breaks the genre molds anymore.
By: Gegenhall. on 21 Jul 08, 12:56:40
Indeed. Also, you need to feel you have to tell something. I see a lot of people write books on their own problems, which is almost never a good base for an interesting book. I think it's going badly wrong nowadays, especially since publish-on-demand, and slogans like "everyone can write". So much bad stuff is written, and it's partly due to movies as this one. A real shame (and waste of paper).
By: tusense. on 21 Jul 08, 12:50:20
I agree. You can paint-by-number the outline and character sketches and etc., but writing and getting an agent or publisher to pick up your work and publish it is NOT easy under any circumstances. Just because you follow this paint-by-number system does not mean you will be published. I think that's very misleading. You still have to write a quality novel, something that is far from easy.
By: Gegenhall. on 20 Jul 08, 14:40:09
It's not easy, it's hard work, you DO need talent, you DO need to read a lot. However, what you DO NOT need to do, is waste your time on miss obese.
