La Momma Morta became EVERYONE'S favorite aria after this movie, which sort of broke my heart. Maybe I'm a snob on this, but opera is something to be studied, to be sifted through. A favorite aria or singer is something personally discovered, not something you find at the top of the charts. While I have no doubt Hanks's character indeed is an opera aficianado, I discount others who play an aria or two without gaining the depth of the operas they come from, how the character comes to sing this

This is where you stop watching Hanks for laughs, and start watching him for the depth of his portrayal, the majesty of his craft, the prowess of his abilities. At this moment, Denzel not only got over the aversions he had against gays once and for all, but realized that even he, a previous homophobe, could find a deep love for someone like Hank's character. It rattled his very sense of being. He went home to his family, I think in part to confirm his being, his straightness. It was a rip-off, if you ask me. Day-Lewis acted better thank Hanks, but Hanks' role had a more clean, humanistic, political message. It happened in 2003, aswell: Lewis did a better job than Adrien Brody, but his character was too shallow.

No matter how great this speech is, the greatest thing about it is that it shows Obama is much more than what many accuse him of, being just words. He stuck his throat out for Wright in this speech, and the media said he didn't distance himself enough, while calling it historic. Wright misrepresented the speech and Obama.
