Candidates proposing universal health care are inspiring. However, we need to fix the health care system as well. As a patient and a former employee (I used to work at a famous hospital on Long Island) of the health care system - I have first-hand knowledge on how the care system works in America. Close to 100,000 people die each year in hospitals due to medical errors. The hospital I worked at had too much administrative waste. There was endless paperwork in processing patient information.

Good job cramming so much in so little time! Single-payer is the way to go, as vetted by politically independent fiscal analysis and by the fact virtually all of the industrialized world has some form of single-payer. SB840, the California Universal Healthcare Act (considered the "gold standard" of single payer legislation) sits on the governors desk right now. Keep up the good work. We will win this battle. The logic of single-payer is inescapable.

A great video, I support HR-676. Musician/Singer/Songwriter I wrote many songs in concern for healthcare crisis. Affordable Healthcare is a RIGHT! Joining the privilege of having health insurance with employment is a mistake, because the one with more difficulty obtaining gainful employment has a more difficult time obtaining the privilege. Interesting hypothesis, but consider that the U.S. has most expensive system in the world by far yet ranks behind all the other rich countries with unviersal systems according to the World Health Organization. I don't like the concept of medical insurance in general. My point was that medical insurance doesn't work because it's an oversocialization of the industry. People do not directly pay for their care, so doctors are not subject to supply and demand and prices shoot up; because prices shoot up, people need insurance. Universal healthcare is an extension of this problem.

Single payer spreads the risk so that no one gets the double whammy of fighting disease and fighting off bankruptcy. The 3% figure is accurate for administration of Medicare, though you could add the doctor's expenses and bring it up to 5%. The fraud issue someone mentioned is in another catagory - waste. If you include clinical waste and fraud, the nonmedically necessary costs swell up to 50 cents on the dollar. Single payer. Cut the profiteering and give people health care.

The current U.S. medical system is blatant extortion. These insurance companies should have never been allowed to insinuate themselves into this personal and important area of our lives. Now they collect data on us and inform new employers to avoid us if we any health issues. If health care was free in USA then the citizen's would be paying the difference elsewhere. It's always the case. The FDA needs an enema. Our foods need to be healthier now! First Clip: "I never said that we should try to go ahead and get single-payer". Second Clip: "I happen to be a proponent of single payer universal health care". These comments are entirely consistent. I may say that I am a "proponent of ice cream for all children", but being realistic, I might not pursue that option. This being this case, I could honestly say "I never said we should get it". This is simply a matter of semantics, and removing a comment from its context.
