If you paid attention to this video, you would know that the bullet can travel a mile in under 2 seconds. If you weren't stupid, you would know that the sheer size of that bullet plus its speed creates an enormous amount of force that can penetrate all but the toughest materials. Hence its purpose "Anti-material". Flesh and bone is nothing for .50 cal bullets.

You obviously have no knowledge of guns. When a bullet hits someone, all the air is sucked into the hole and blown out at the other end. Entry wounds are typically smaller than exit wounds because of this. A bigger and faster the bullet means more air being sucked through the hole. A rifle of this magnitude would easily blow people to pieces.

the SVD was never really intended to be a true sniper rifle though. it was/is intended to fill a role similar to how the US military uses the m14 today, i.e., extend the range of a squad, out past where the m16/4 (or ak) is effective. so you can't really compare it to a bolt action rifle like this

class 3 is a whole different world. First of all, you would need a 'machinegun license' or equivalent to own it. Second, to make one I believe you need to apply to the BATF for a permit to manufacture that specific type of weapon. Then when finished you have to register it and apply for the Class 3 tax stamp. That's enough hassle to deter most people.

you are SO lucky, here in the UK we arn't even allowed a knife over 3.5 inches. You would be arrested if you got caught with an air rifle even. 7 years instance jail for a shotgun. Years ago before the stupid laws took away our liberty i owned a Cody 5 pump action, a magnum single 12 bore and a 410 poachers shotguns, sob :( those days long gone we are not allowed to bear arms. The bullet is half an inch in diameter...it doesn't need to expand to be lethal. While an expanding bullet would surely be more effective, I'm pretty sure one hit from a FMJ round would sufficiently kill just about anything.

You have a superiority complex. A rifle may not be as effective as a single rocket, but many rifles are better than one rocket. And it doesn't cost $15,000 to fire it once. Any occupying country always faces this dilemma: A hundred 100-dollar rifles are better than 10 thousand dollar rifles.
